Introduction to Patient Advocacy in Canada
Eight one-hour collaborative classes over a 4 month semester. Classes will focus on the following topics.
What is Patient Advocacy?
This course will introduce students to the important role that patient advocacy provides to society. The course will also discuss the different types of advocacy groups (fundraising, awareness raising, research, policy, etc) and advocacy jobs.
Introduction to the Canadian Health Care system
Drug Development
Treatment Options
Starting a Patient Advocacy Group
Online Presence: Website Design and Social Media
Clinical Trials: Introduction
Review and Final Exam
After completing the core curriculum, specialize in one or more of the advanced areas.
